Mike Costa has spent his life growing plants in South Florida. He came up in the family business his father, Jose Antonio Costa Sr., founded in Homestead in 1961, a nursery that grew into one of the area's leading indoor tropical operations alongside his brother, Tony.
When Hurricane Andrew reshaped the industry in 1992, the family set out on separate paths. Mike went on to build his own foliage company and created the CANELA brand, continuing to grow the tropicals South Florida is known for.

Today that same grower's eye and family standard live on at The Lost Horizons Nursery, where Mike grows hanging baskets and interior foliage for the trade, one full, healthy plant at a time.
